Leading West Australian dog food manufacturer Nutri-Mate Pet Foods has partnered with established regional pet food manufacturer Pet World Nutritions to begin exporting its products into Southeast Asia, starting with the Malaysian market.
The milestone was recently announced at an event hosted at Pet World’s Shah Alam headquarters in Malaysia and officiated by Yang Berhormat Datuk Chan Foong Hin, Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Security.
The distribution deal will see three of the company’s 1kg fresh dog food roll range – chicken, beef, and lamb all with rice and vegetables – supplied into the Malaysian market.
Nutri-Mate founder and managing director Dr Richard Pace, who originally founded WA-based Canon Foods in 1984, said it was a landmark moment for the 100% Australian owned local manufacturer.
“This new partnership is a significant step forward for Nutri-Mate and we’re extremely excited to be taking our affordable premium fresh dog food rolls to the Southeast Asian market,” he said.
“This unique collaboration allows Pet World Nutritions to debut what they describe as ‘sausage chub format’ pet nutrition.
“Nutri-Mate’s products are being shipped by air fresh from Australia, aligning with Pet World’s 2026 sustainability goals, utilising minimalist packaging to significantly reduce environmental impact while maintaining premium nutritional standards.”
Dr Pace said this is the first of many expected forays into the Southeast Asian market.
The event was also supported and attended by Tse Chien Koo and Nathalie Oon from Austrade, and Adil Akbar representing WA, said Dr Pace.
The event also saw Pet World Nutritions Sdn. Bhd. announce a strategic Letter of Intent (LOI) with Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) to advance the nation’s research and academic sector in a partnership focused on strengthening public-private synergy to advance academic research, student development, and industry-relevant studies in animal health, supporting the continued growth of Malaysia’s veterinary and pet nutrition ecosystem.
Established in 2021, Nutri-Mate locally manufactures premium, nutrient-packed affordable dog food rolls that ensure dogs of all ages and breeds get all the goodness they need.
Crafted using 90% WA-sourced ingredients, Nutri-Mate’s preservative and additive free products are available at selected IGA nationally, Spudshed, Farmer Jack’s, Coles and Woolworths supermarkets.
The Canning Vale facility manufactured food for people for 20 years and now produces dog food to the same high standards.
